Apart from calling, texting, web-browsing and photo-shooting, what other functions would you expect for your smartphone? Games? Apps? For me, I’d ask for extraordinary features like…a projector. Yes, a projector. Samsung has launched the Galaxy Beam which is the first Android smartphone to have a built-in DLP pico projector. You can create your personal mini mobile theatre now!
Can’t wait to see what are inside the box. You’ll find a Samsung Galaxy Beam phone, a battery, a charger, a handsfree, a CD-ROM and a user's guide.
In fact, besides the projector, Beam has excellent features as a smartphone. Running with Android OS, it has a 3.7-inch super AMOLED touch screen which gives quality images. And with Samsung home made TouchWiz interface, you can have up to 7 pages of homepage and user-friendly icons.
The rear of Beam adopts a landscape design. If I don’t look at the front side, I will definitely think it is just a DC from Samsung.
The camera of Beam is just cool. It is of 8 megapixels and with flash. Autofocus is available and video recording is of course enabled.
The Beam is of 14.9mm thick. That would be a little bit too thick for female users. But it still feels comfortable in hands. A standard audio jack is at the left edge of the phone.
The superb pico projector can be found at the top of the phone. You just simply lie the phone down and let it work!
I’ve tried the quality of the projector. In dark conditions it performs really quite well and images or videos are clearly projected onto any flat surface. Even if you enlarge the projection size, images will not blur.
Samsung Galaxy Beam is speeding up the evolution of smartphones. While the others are trying hard to make creative designs, or pushing forward extra-large screens, Samsung’s Beam is obviously much more practical, useful and powerful.
